Intro¶
Who we are¶
The project was born based on discussions about the problems and challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic to the world and its impacts in Brazil. The group is a voluntary organization that includes young scientists and the local population with a wide range of expertise. Many belonging to public or private institutions, undergraduate students, professors, research scientists and consultants, along with the local community. The group seeks to gather relevant questions and data, contributing to decision making by public authorities and also inform the local population. At the moment, the project is not funded by any public or private organization, but the group is motivated and aware of the potentiality of their collective actions in a critical moment like the current one.
The focus of the study is the Metropolitan Region of Vale do Paraíba and Litoral Norte (RMVPLN), or RMVale, an area located between two of the largest metropolitan regions in the world: Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. The group monitors the cases of COVID-19 in RMVale daily aggregating qualitative and quantitative data, and seeks to ensure the reliability of the database so that it can be used by the scientific community and all those interested in case studies in the region.
The intention is to explore two major areas in this project: the first is of a technical nature, showing the evolution of potential and confirmed cases of COVID-19, the impact of public policies during quarantine and the mobility that exists between cities; in the second, there is the educational benefit attributed to the inestimable value of community involvement with the COVID-19 problem. Direct and local action can bring a sense of citizenship and participation that is highly beneficial to society, especially for those who live in conditions of social marginalization.
Quem somos¶
O projeto nasceu a partir de algumas discussões sobre os problemas e desafios apresentados pelo COVID-19 no mundo e seu impacto no Brasil. O grupo é uma organização voluntária que engloba jovens cientistas e a população local com ampla área de atuação. Muitos pertencentes a instituições públicas ou privadas, estudantes de graduação, professores, cientistas pesquisadores e consultores, juntamente com a comunidade local. O grupo pretende reunir dados e questionamentos relevantes, contribuindo para a tomada de decisões pelas autoridades públicas e também informar a população local. No momento, o projeto não é financiado por nenhuma organização pública ou privada, mas o grupo é motivado e consciente da potencialidade de suas ações coletivas em um momento crítico como o atual.
O foco do estudo é a Região Metropolitana do Vale do Paraíba e Litoral Norte (RMVPLN), ou RMVale, área localizada entre duas das maiores regiões metropolitanas do mundo: São Paulo e Rio de Janeiro. O grupo monitora diariamente os casos de COVID-19 na RMVale agregando dados qualitativos e quantitativos, e procura garantir a confiabilidade do banco de dados para que possa ser usado pela comunidade científica e por todos aqueles interessados em estudos de caso na região.
Pretende-se explorar duas grandes áreas neste projeto: a primeira é de natureza técnica, mostrando a evolução dos casos potenciais e confirmados do COVID-19, o impacto das políticas públicas durante a quarentena e a mobilidade existente entre as cidades; na segunda, há o benefício educacional atribuído ao valor inestimável do envolvimento da comunidade com o problema COVID-19. A ação direta e local pode trazer um senso de cidadania e participação que é altamente benéfico para a sociedade, especialmente para aqueles que vivem em condições de marginalização social.
